About me
I am a member of the <e-UCM> research group, the e-learning group from the Complutense University in Madrid (Department of Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence).
I have been working in the field of e-learning for several years. My first experience in this field was the development of an experimental Learning Management System while I was still studying my degree. This introduced me into the the field and soon I began developing projects related to educational specifications and standards (think IMS)
I soon realized that digital games had a lot of elements that e-learning simply lacked, such as the capacity to attract the attention of the students. I do still believe that e-learning is an important medium, but it has a lot of limitations. Games may be the key to a new generation of e-learning environments, and I decided to focus my research there.
Inside my research group I lead the initiatives related to game-based learning and game-like simulations, and their integration in next-generation e-learning environments. In particular, I focus a good deal of my attention on the <e-Adventure> project, which started as a prototype for my PhD but has now grown beyond all the initial expectations.
For more information, you can download my résumé, my PhD Dissertation (”A Documental Approach for the Creation and Deployment of Educational Videogames in Virtual Learning Environments“) or the slides from the public defense.
